Dumb luck

So, I didn’t plan on posting the results of my weigh in this week, knowing full well what I’d willingly shoveled into my mouth this week!  In fact, I really had to muster up the gumption to even go to the meeting to weigh in at all!  I figured, I needed to take the good with the bad, and accepting the responsibility of my choices was the right thing to do.

My honest hope was to have a gain of no more than five pounds.  Imagine my surprise when the numbers rested nearly three pounds less than my last weigh in!  That’s right, I somehow lost 2.8 pounds this week!  I well aware of the likelihood that my holiday noshing will catch up with me next week…but knowing that I made progress will help keep me a little more accountable over the coming week!

Zip. Zero. Zilch.

That’s right.  I didn’t gain a single ounce this week.  Considering that I almost didn’t go weigh in tonight, for fear that my indulgence in 1 2 deliciously buttered dinner rolls, perfectly flaky-crusted apple pie, a couple pieces of Mom’s homemade peanut butter fudge and a few other ridiculously delectable foods would have resulted in a significant gain.

I’m completely thrilled that I worked up the gumption to go tonight because now I have a newfound dedication to staying on track this week!  I know that I would have struggled if I’d skipped tonight and spent the rest of the week playing mind games with myself.

I have so many pictures from the holiday weekend, including the Turkey Trot 5k I completed along with 1209 other runners, and a long-awaited visit with my brother and sister-in-law!  Hopefully this weekend affords a few moments to get some pics processed and posted!

What a loser!

I know, this sounds bad.  But in fact this is my way of saying that my half-pound loss this week was decent considering I was in San Antonio for a conference from Wednesday through Saturday and did my fair share of indulging.  Granted, I also ran every day which is pretty good.  Race day is just two days away and I know that it’s going to be cold and challenging, but I also am really starting to like the way I feel after putting in a good workout.

We’ve also made a startling discovery.  Remember my confession a while back…well, even Garth said that last night’s pizza didn’t really hit the spot as it had been.  I said the same thing having had just one piece (and a few pieces of cheese bread).  So I think I might be switching up my post weigh-in reward just a bit.  Perhaps this health-kick is really working!

And finally – The Biggest Loser.  Did anyone really think that Vicky wouldn’t vote Amy out?  She is so incredibly conniving.  Not that I don’t wish her well with her weight loss and health, but seriously, I will be terribly disappointed if she wins it all.  After Allie last season and even Michelle and Renee this season, there are good people out there who seem to deserve the title more.

I suppose that’s enough rambling for now!

So tonight I recorded my first official gain.  I’m certainly not thrilled about it, but I also expected it.  I guess that my 2.8lb loss last week makes the one pound gain a little less disheartening.  I think the most frustrating part is that I’d started out doing really well last week.  Enjoying our amazingly beautiful days I went for 2 walks a day for 2 days, plus enjoyed a couple of outdoor runs.

I think all that exercise made me a little cocky.  I started getting a little lax about my food choices.  It also didn’t help that for some odd reason I decided to whip up a batch of saltine cracker toffee.  It’s definitely a yummy treat, but certainly not core!!

So, I’m back on track this week.  It helps that my 5k Turkey Trot is only 2 weeks away, and I know that next week will be a little weird since I’ll be heading to Texas.  Now, I if I can nip this headcold in the bud, I’ll be all set for a great weigh-in next Tuesday!

If I could, I would

create a time machine.  It would be a multifunctional piece of engineering goodness.  Not only would it allow me to go back in time (perhaps one of the unwritten rules of blogging, so my apologies if I have committed the utmost blogging crime!), but it would also manufacture time.

Sounds great, huh?

Yeah, it would collect all those little bits of time that don’t really allow for anything productive to take place, and store them all together into a big batch of time.  It’s sorta like the defragment feature on your computer.

Sadly, or ironically, it would take too much time to create this fancy-schmancy do-job, so I guess I’ll just take the few minutes I have here and give a quick update.  Anyway…I’m still here.  We’ve been having lots of fun and I hope to post some pictures soon.  And I do have to commit the timestamp treachery again because I really want to post my hubby’s birthday wishes on his actual birthday….which was last Thursday! 😦  I’m sure he appreciates the time I’ve spent with him much more than time I’d have spent finishing my writing about him!

On the fitness front, I did weigh in this week, and was very pleased with my 4.2lb loss!  I’ve gotten out running about 3 times this week, which isn’t saying much because I can’t go very far just yet.  But I did register for the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day, so now I’ve got me some motivation.

And just an FYI, not that I anticipate my absence will cause major trauma in the lives of many, but I know that in a few short weeks I will be quite fickle in my posts.  Between preparing for our presentation in San Antonio at the National Writing Project annual meeting, and getting things around for heading back into the classroom, I’m sure my plate will be heaping.  Which means, if I am here…it’s probably because I’m putting off completing something else and would rather share pictures and write about the fun stuff going on in my life! 🙂

I’ll leave you with a little shot of one of our recent outings.  There’s a new indoor playground at one of the local churches.  Calder had a great time and we’re hoping to get back there again before too long!

Since I don’t have much today, head over to Stacy’s to see what others have created this week!
